When I Became The Vintage Modern Wife: Our 2 Year Anniversary

I can’t believe how fast time flies. I know people say that, but sometimes it really does feel as though my life is flashing through my eyes. When I started this little blog, I was The Vintage Modern Bride. I blogged about our engagement day, and I felt as though our 18 month engagement would NEVER end. But…. two years ago, I married the most amazing man, and I became The Vintage Modern Wife. We had the most spectacular day and even though there were a few hiccups, it was perfect to us. I never truly shared wedding pictures of our big day because they were all on a disc and my netbook laptop didn’t have a disk drive. Now that we have our new computer, I am so thrilled to FINALLY share some of my favorite pictures of our big day with you. Our photographers, Rhonda and Tim, from Legacy Imaging captured more than I could’ve ever imagined. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Without further ado, here’s the story of  when I became The Vintage Modern Wife..

The Vintage Modern Wife shows off her wedding dress details with this custom bridal hanger to hold her dress!

I fell in love with my Oleg Cassini wedding dress the second I tried it on. It was ivory with champagne beaded accents, tulle ruffles, and lace. It was everything I could’ve ever dreamed of- a little vintage, a little modern, hence The Vintage Modern Bride. I got the hanger from an Etsy vendor during our engagement and I love how it looked put together with my dress.

Absolutely love this beaded clutch and satin garter from The Vintage Modern Wife's wedding! Our bridesmaids dresses were David’s Bridal Watermelon and I love how my vintage-inspired beaded clutch and satin garter look on it. I looked forever for the perfect garter and also found this on Etsy. The bow was so cute and was a great addition to my dress.

I love this picture of The Vintage Modern Wife, her mom, and her mother in law helping put her veil on before her wedding. I need a picture like this! This is one of my favorite pictures from the day- especially because it captures a memory that I honestly don’t remember happening. Getting my dress on at the church is such a blur (in fact, I swear that I got dressed by myself and no one helped me. Obviously I was wrong!) and so it’s really nice that Rhonda was able to get this photo for me. My mother is on the left, and Mathew’s mom is on the right, making this such a special picture for me.

This picture from The Vintage Modern Wife's blog is too cute! The flower girl kissing the groom is one picture I definitely need at my wedding!

While I got dressed at the church, Mathew was having fun taking pictures with the wedding party. This particular picture of my niece, Lexi, and Mathew warms my heart. I have a copy of this picture hanging in our guest bedroom just because I love it so much.

I love this picture from The Vintage Modern Wife where her groom is waiting for her to come down the aisle. So sweet!

Another absolute favorite of mine from our wedding is this picture of Mathew and his dad (the best man) in the background. Mathew said that this is when he saw me coming down the aisle. It’s such a sweet picture and I can just feel all the emotion coming from it. Seeing that face as I walked down the aisle was the best thing ever.

This picture of The Vintage Modern Wife and her dad walking down the aisle is great! I love the lanterns hanging on the sides and the lit tulle runner! If you can’t tell in this picture, I’m about to lose it. I busted out crying happy tears on the aisle and tried my hardest to keep my huge smile on my face. I was so overjoyed because our engagement had been so long that I really truly had felt as though our wedding would never get there. Mathew’s Aunt Marylynn did the decor for the church and reception, and I love how the modern lanterns looked on the sides of the aisles. This picture captures exactly how I wanted our church to look. Also, if you notice the runner, there’s lit tulle on the sides, which give it a classical and whimsical feel.

This bride and groom from The Vintage Modern Wife is so pretty! I love the classic black and white for this. After the wedding, Mathew and I took lots of pictures together. This one is so sweet to me and really makes me feel all warm and happy inside. I felt so beautiful and couldn’t believe I’d just married the man of my dreams.

I definitely need a picture of my groom and bridesmaids like this one from The Vintage Modern Wife. It's too funny!Of course, Mathew and I can NEVER stay serious for too long, so then it became time for us to take fun pictures like this one. I love how all the bridesmaids look. They really were pulling on him pretty hard! Ps- see that cute bridesmaid in the front with glasses? That’s Beth Anne- she’s getting married next year and we just got her Save the Date! I’m so excited she’ll get to have a wonderful day like we did very soon.

These hot pink socks for the groomsmen are priceless! Gotta have pink colored socks for my groomsmen! While the girls, Mathew, and I were having a hilarious time taking pictures, the guys patiently waited off to the side- resulting in this cute picture. Yeah, the pinks don’t match (one of our little hiccups and the bad part of buying things online), but they guys thought they were fun and were pretty good sports about them.

This pink candy bar buffet is too cute! Love all the different pink candies that The Vintage Modern Wife used! After the ceremony, everyone headed to the reception. This is what the pink candy buffet looked like before we got there. By the time we’d gotten to the reception, half of it had been demolished (and under the table were boxes of lots more to replenish). We never got to see it in person in it’s full beauty. Mathew’s aunt made a stunning centerpiece with ornaments in the middle (it stood at least 3-4 feet high), and surrounded it with different pink candies. The pink glassine bags were made by me, with a personalized stamp that said “Love is Sweet”.

Love this vintage-inspired wedding cake from The Vintage Modern Wife. The monogrammed wedding cake and lace tiers are gorgeous!

Our cake baker came highly recommended by several people in town, and we actually had a blast taste testing months before the wedding. He gave us an entire tier’s worth of cake in different flavors to take home and let our friend’s try! When it came down to our wedding, I was glad I’d had the chance to taste our cake beforehand at home because I literally got one bite of the wedding cake and one bite of the groom’s cake and that was it! It was amazingly delicious and last year the baker made us a fresh tier for our 1 year anniversary.

A sparkler exit is the best finale to an evening wedding. I love how this picture from The Vintage Modern Wife turned out as they're exiting their reception.Red-faced from dancing too hard, holding my train because someone stepped on it (twice) and I didn’t want to bother trying to fix the bustle or the safety pins that had held it the first time it broke, wearing flip-flops because my shoes killed my feet by the end of our ceremony, we had a sparkler exit at our reception and left for Austin to stay at the Driskill Hotel. This picture sums up our night and shows just how truly happy and excited we were!

So there you have it folks- a tiny glimpse into our wedding TWO years ago. It’s been one crazy, emotional, fun, scary, adventurous ride- but I’m so thankful to be on the ride with Mathew. He’s an absolutely wonderful husband and I can’t wait to spend many, many more wedding anniversaries with him. Here’s to the man who turned me from The Vintage Modern Bride into The Vintage Modern Wife- you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me Bambino!

I Never Ever Ever….

– can believe that I am married to such a wonderful man. Sure, we’re not perfect, but we work really hard to make our relationship work. I love that my husband loves God, works hard to support us, and loves me. Not gonna lie- he’s pretty amazing.

Love this Fall photoshoot of The Vintage Modern Wife by Sarah Lake Photography!

– can get enough of photo shoots with Mathew and Pearl. Now that it’s officially Fall, I really want to do another fun pumpkin patch photo shoot. The one we did last Fall was SO much fun!

– can stop loving working for such a fun school and district. Have I mentioned that I get next Tuesday OFF just so I can go to the Texas State Fair?! ANNND that I get a free ticket through my school? So awesome. The only sad part is that I am most likely not going to see Neely like last year when I go to the fair this year.

So now it’s YOUR turn to link up for Never Ever Ever!

Finding Little Joys

Lately, I’ve really been trying to find the little joys in life. My link up like Happies and Crappies really helps me do that. I think it’s important to focus on the good things in life and really love the life that you’re living.

Things that give me joy:

Leaving sweet notes for my husband in his lunch and saying “I love you” all throughout the day via phone/text

Making food for people. There’s something so good about putting a plate of food in front of someone and watching them tell you “It’s so amazing!” It makes me feel good. This is my latest creation- SkinnyTaste pork chops and a green bean/onion mix that I saw on The Chew.

Decorating my classroom. It’s a heck of a lot of work, and I’ve been at the school about 7 days or so working, but I love seeing the progress and how it’s actually starting to look good.

Snuggling with my little Pearl girl. She may be a brat at times, but dang she’s just so cute!

– Telling everyone it’s my birthday week. It’s so fun to announce and get excited about birthdays. I feel like a little kid every time my birthday rolls around. Plus, I’m totally excited for cupcakes from What About Cupcakes on Thursday when we go to my MIL’s house.

Also, is it sad that I want Mathew to make my birthday extra huge like Marshall did for Lily on HIMYM? (more on that Wednesday…)

Wearing sweaters in July. We got a cold front in yesterday with some (ok a lot) of rain. It’s supposed to keep raining all week and have nice, cool weather and honestly I’m loving it. I got to wear a sweater to church yesterday which is TOTALLY unheard of in July in Texas. I mean- I don’t even wear jeans during the summer because it’s THAT hot. I should’ve taken a picture for proof.

Holding cute babies. I think it’s the fact that we’ve been married a year and a half that makes me enjoy holding cute babies. It makes me wonder what ours might look like some day. It’s a fun thought. However, a not fun thought happened to me yesterday when I went to the store and saw a box of diapers for $45. Um, that’s just wrong. Babies need to stop being so expensive.

– Getting phone calls from my parents. It makes my day whenever my parents call me and I haven’t called them first. I miss them and hate that they’re 5 hours away, but it always makes me happy when I get to talk to them. Most of the time, I hate having to hang up! (This picture is of my sweet mom on Mother’s Day with the present I gave her)
