Losing Weight Can Be Foolproof…

…if you want it to be.

I have a love/hate relationship with food. I LOVE to eat it, but I HATE that it all goes to my hips and stomach.

Exhibit A- hips, stomach, and Hilary Duff arms

Living in Texas, I find that it’s hard to hate food. You’ve got two important staples: Mexican and Southern. Not to mention, there’s an Olive Garden in EVERY town. It makes wanting to be skinny very difficult. Also, it’s really hot here in Texas like 98% of the year. Who wants to work out?!

I’ve always been insecure with my body, and when I met Mathew I decided I needed to change. In 6 months I lost 60 lbs by just eating healthy the first 3 months and then added working out to the mix (5-6 days a week for 3 hrs a day) for the last 3 months. It was intense, but it helped me to get rid of my “Hilary Duff arms” as my sister tells me.

Anyway, I obviously lost weight once before (and fast) and I can do it again. I’ve put my mind to it and I’m working my butt off to lose at least 10 lbs by BlissDom. I’ve lost 5 already, so I’m halfway there! Blissdom isn’t the reason I want to lose it, but it’s just a small goal.

People are already tweeting me and asking what I’m doing to lose the weight, so I thought I’d give you a little insight into how it’s working for me.

6 foolproof ways to lose weight for good! This site has some great tips! Can't wait to start using them!

1. Drink lots of water. I usually don’t like to drink during my day. Call me weird, but I don’t really get thirsty. I could go a whole meal and maybe drink 2 sips the whole meal. However, it’s important to drink lots of water to help flush out the fat. So I try to at least drink 4 glasses of water a day (about 8 cups).

I saw this awesome idea on Pinterest to drink all your water, and it’s a really good idea if you’re like me and feel like you need a reminder.

2. Track what you eat. I feel like tracking what I eat gives me more accountability. I use MyFitnessPal.com (with the handy dandy app on my phone) and write down what I eat all day so I don’t go over my calories. Also, the fact that my friends can see what I’m eating too makes me want to eat healthier in case they look at my meals for the day!

3. Get a heart rate monitor. Those machines at the gym don’t ever do you justice. They never seem to get the calories burned correctly.

I have the Polar FT4 heart rate monitor and I wear it every time I work out. I initially didn’t want a HR monitor with a strap, but I honestly can’t even feel it during workouts.

4. Don’t give up ALL your favorites. I’m a huge advocate for eating everything in moderation. I don’t believe that I should give up my chicken alfredo or Chuy’s chips and queso or my favorite- mango margarita. HOWEVER, I do believe you need to eat in moderation if you choose to order things like that. It should be occasional and it should be in a small portion (limit yourself to 10 chips and then pour sugar or too much salt all over your chips to “ruin” them so you don’t eat more). To me, eating better is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE and not a diet. Secret shakes and cleanses and meal replacements aren’t a lifestyle change move- they’re a diet. Diets don’t work…lifestyle changes do. I eat bread/pasta/chips when I’m trying to lose weight because you need to learn portion control. Let me tell you something- if you try meal replacements and shakes, etc you’re only hurting yourself because you’re wanting instant gratification instead of LIFETIME gratification.

5. Go lean green and mean! As a snack if I get hungry, I stick with green monster smoothies. Neely turned me on to them and they’re amazingly delicious and healthy. I adapted a recipe for mine from her, and I’ll happily share it on the blog next week if y’all like.

6. Cardio it up. I’ve been doing TONS of cardio lately. I like to do weights too, but definitely more cardio. Get on that treadmill or elliptical and put on the Katy Perry station on Pandora (trust me, you’ll thank me). As long as you’ve got some good music with an awesome beat, you’ll be just fine. Give yourself at least 30-45 mins of good cardio and then finish up with some abs and a little bit of weights.

It’s not rocket science, but it definitely can be difficult. I’ve always yo-yoed with my weight, but somehow I always go back to wanting to be healthy. Healthy is important. We all want to live long and healthy lives, so what are we all waiting for?!

Let’s make this FOOLPROOF and only have to use this guide ONCE!

1.Saturday was a HUGE cleaning day for Mathew and I. I don’t usually look forward to cleaning days but I found my Michael Kors earrings! I lost them around Christmas time and apparently they were hiding under a huge forever 21 box I used to put stocking stuffers we got. I was SO happy I found them! I know it sounds like I’m always losing things, but I swear I’m not.

I totally wore this Old Navy shirt with my leggings and my flats and went to the store in these yesterday and I don’t think ANYONE realized they were workout pants. SCORE! All I know, is that I’m totally wearing these leggings to Crossfit this Saturday. At least I’ll look cute while my butt is being kicked. ANYWAY, This “happy” is for YOU guys, because ThomasKelly is GIVING AWAY a pair JUST for you! After you’ve linked up, scroll to the bottom of this post and enter!

1. I’m on my period this week. Sorry if it’s TMI, but hey, it’s my blog. I hate that one week a month. Makes me feel SO bloated and disgusting. Plus, I always crave salty things during that time, but it always makes it worse.

2. I found out my graduation is at 7:30 at NIGHT. What the heck!? Who graduates that late?! Plus, the school I go to is actually an hour and a half away (I take the classes from my university at the community college so I don’t have to drive) so I have to go early, go to graduation, and get home really late. All I’ve gotta say is, this better be worth it!

Now it’s YOUR turn to link up for Happies and Crappies!

Give Me Some Inspiration- and an announcement ;)

So I feel like a fatty. Like for real, y’all. Last year I lost 30 lbs and then gained 10 back during the holidays with the stress of leaving my job, starting student teaching, and being on one income. Being a teacher isn’t easy on it either. I feel like at least every week we have a birthday in our class and it’s incredibly hard to deny cupcakes. Then there was Valentine’s day and I got all these chocolates (to which I’ve only eaten a small few pieces). Needless to say, I don’t like that my jeggings are feeling tight. Yeah, that’s not good.

What you eat in private, you wear in public: Getting Healthy with Crossfit

I’ve done the eating healthy thing, but that only goes so far. You have to work OUT to lose weight too. In fact, before I moved to Waco several years ago I lost 60 lbs eating healthy AND working out (and then gained it all when I moved here and I’m slowly losing it). There were no secrets, no pills, nothing. Just eating healthy and hard work. It’s not difficult physically, but MENTALLY for me.

I need inspiration, guys. Like BAD. I feel like I’m still hungry 1 hour after eating, or feel uninspired to work out more than 1 hour at the gym, when a couple of years ago I would go to the gym 4-5 days a week for 3 hours each day. I was a GYM rat and only talked about healthy eating and working out. But now? Where’s the inspiration!? You could even tell me that you’d give me a shopping spree if I lost 40 lbs and I’d still not be encouraged enough. All I know, is that I want to look like this:

Jessica Simpson in Dukes of Hazzard

So I think I’ve found what I want to do, but I’m not sure:

There’s a free class that the Waco Crossfit hosts every Saturday for people who are thinking about trying it out and I really want to go. Neely, Sarah, and Sar are coming over that day, but it should be early enough that I can go, get showered, and be ready for them. I don’t know, I’m nervous, but I’m really hoping this will give me the motivation. I need someone that will help me kick my own butt!

Anyway…Here’s the moment you were waiting for…the announcement!

Next Wednesday, February 27th
I’m hosting a link up with Amanda and Amber to talk about blog names. We want to know … What your blog name is, why you picked it, and what it means to you!

Here’s the button! Please make sure you include it in your post and make sure you come back to one of our blogs and link up so others can find your posts.

Say My Name Link Up with Brunch With Amber, Princess of the Panhandle, and The Vintage Modern Wife

So tell me… what do y’all think about Crossfit? Have you heard good things about it? Is it worth the money (and would any of you like to be my secret benefactor?!) and will you be linking up with us next week? I hope you will!
