Amidst all the wedding planning and figuring out all the tiny details, we’ve had a really hard day today.
You see, Mathew’s family had 2 outdoor dogs when I moved here, and 1 indoor dog. This past fall one of the outdoor dogs, Tinker, passed away. It was pretty hard on Mathew and his sister/BM Kristin. Tinker had been around 18 years (and so had the other dog, Tippy).
Well last night Mathew and I stayed up last night to deep clean his room, and while going to throw away the trash at 1:30 am, we went through the backyard and could not find Tippy. We stayed up looking for her until 2:30, and then I couldn’t go to bed until 3:30 am. We woke up at 7:30 this morning to try to find her again, but no luck.
I’m not sure what to do to help Mathew because Tippy was HIS dog (Tinker was Kristin’s). He’s been down all day, and I even brought him a yummy BLT from Subway to help cheer him up. I’m even letting him pick whatever he wants to on tv in hopes it will help.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been around Mathew when he’s suffering a “loss” of some kind. For all you engaged/married gals, what do you like to do to cheer up your man?

My FI lost three dogs in one year; one was run over (the youngest one), one was put down (the oldest one), and one died outside from what I think was heat exhaustion. All three times I was in Chicago so what I did to make him feel a little better was buy him dinner and chat with him on the phone with all the great memories I had with his dogs. I always took pictures when we would visit his family so we framed some of those. I’m sorry for your loss 🙁

Oh, that’s so sad. Now that I have my kitties, I already fear the day when I’ll have to say goodbye to them. I hope you can find her. 🙁

My heart is breaking. That is so sad. Maybe she’ll come back today – I’ve got my fingers crossed. When Mr. ST is upset I just sit with him. He’s not a big talker when he feels that way and I’ve learned to just sit with him; just be there.

sometimes all they need is love, support, and time. It can be so hard to watch you true love suffer. Big hugs to Mathew.

By the way your letter is posted! Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful part of your relationship.

Oh no! It is so hard to lose a pet! Just support him and spend time with him, really there is no simple answer to how to make someone feel better. I try to avoid doign things that they love because I don`t want them to be associated with something sad.
I hope you find him!

Hi! I found you through The Teenage Bride! I’m so sorry to hear about Tippy! I’m not good with big losses, probably because I’ve never really had one.
I have found that the best way to cheer up my husband is to let him process, wait for him to bring it up, listen and be supportive, and ALWAYS give a backrub! No joke, a back rub can brighten up ANYTHING! 🙂
Hey, I’m having a giveaway over at my blog if you’d like to come check it out! Have a great weekend!
