With Blissdom coming up in 2 short weeks, I want to put my best foot forward. That includes certain things like looking my best, being organized, getting to know the ins and outs of the conference, etc. My roomies and I are constantly texting each other about Blissdom with everything from nail appointments and spray tans to who we want to meet badly. It’s a bit overwhelming, and can be a little daunting when going to your first blog conference. Not only am I representing myself, but I’m representing Hope’s, so I need to make sure that I put my best foot forward and prep well!
1. Get some awesome clothes:
They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but you know that you can tell a lot about a person by the way they dress. If you’re looking to make potential partnerships with other bloggers or companies, you need to put your best food forward and shine. Find unique outfits that stay true to you and make you look presentable!
2. Do your research!
Researching is KEY for blog conferences. Last time I talked about Blissdom prep, I told you to start doing your networking. This is even MORE important right now. Not only that, but you need to find out who the speakers are, if you know or can befriend any community leaders to help you throughout the day (I happen to be rooming with two!), and who the partners of the conference are.
3. Make sure your media kit is killer
We’ll talk about media kits on a later date, but there are SO many options out there on how they look. Make one that reflects you and your blog, and gives concise information about you. Add pictures, your blog’s signature fonts, and just generally make it STAND OUT! Print in color and print enough to give to conference partners that you feel would be a good fit for your blog.
4. Get organized!
No one likes an unorganized person. Get your stuff ready early and put your media kit, business cards, credit cards/money, in an easily accessible area. Usually you get a tote bag at conferences, so you may want to find an alternative item to hold your important stuff instead of a purse. Luckily, my Bella Vita iPhone wristlet holds my phone, has space for business/credit cards, and money. You’re not going to want to hold your big purse for hours on end, so get something that can keep you organized without all the clunk.
5. Don’t always stick to the people you came with
I know going somewhere without people you know can be hard. I, for one, hate going to new events all by myself. It can be scary. Will you find someone to talk with? Will people like you? If you stick with your roommates 24/7 chances are, you won’t get to know that many new people. Start planning what tracks and sessions you’ll be going to. Do what is best for YOUR blog. If that means planning on going to a different session than your roomie, then that’s ok! Besides, you can come together at the end of the day and share all you learned so you have 2 times the info! Start thinking about the direction you want to go with your blog and go from there! Be prepared ahead of time.

Awesome post!i just wrote a blog post yesterday about Blissdom, too. I’m getting pretty excited. Ok I’m really excited!! And you are so right about that last one, I think I worry that I will just hang with the people I’m rooming with and not meet. Lot of other people. But my hope is that I will spend time really meeting and networking with other people…. Like you! Looking forward to meeting you in person!
