About a month ago, we asked our photographers, Rhonda and Tim Williams of Legacy Imaging, if they’d help us do a lemonade themed 1st birthday photo shoot for Addie’s birthday invitations. The weekend before, Mathew and my dad spent the entire weekend putting together a massive lemonade stand so our pictures would look absolutely perfect. A lemonade themed 1st birthday seemed like the perfect idea for Addie’s 1st birthday because of the phrase “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” I felt like that had truly been our motto for the first year of Addie’s life, and we just went with it.
As you may have read in mine and Mathew’s letters to Addie, this past year had many ups and downs. We pushed through the toughest year of our lives, and we are continuing to push towards a normal life. Well- as normal of a life we could have. I wanted Addie’s lemonade themed 1st birthday photo shoot to give us the perfect pictures for our family all together, AND be fabulous for her invitations. I’m so happy that they turned out as well as I had hoped…well ok I was hoping for Addie to smile too for these but it was blazing hot and humid. But I’ll take them anyway because she’s gorgeous with or without her smile!
I plan to have this picture framed for our mantle. I love that we FINALLY have a professional picture of all of us together for the first time. This was the picture we used for Addie’s birthday invitations and I am so amazed at how perfect it is. Plus, that lemonade stand is way too cool!
My sister, Heather, and I spent a while getting the props together. We fluffed pom poms, bought a ton of lemons, made lemonade, cut flowers and lemons, did final paint touch ups, and had THREE cake fails. The first cake I tried to bake and it was a generic brand so it didn’t work well. The second cake was store purchased and I took all the frosting off. I whipped up some pink frosting, made rosettes on the cake, and when I was showing it to my sister, it tumbled all over the counter and I was out of frosting. The third cake is this one, and it started melting the second we took it outside. It was a NIGHTMARE. Thankfully, except for me telling y’all about it, you would’ve never known!
The pink and yellow lemonade stand is my absolute favorite. My dad and Mathew put it together over a whole weekend and with many trips back and forth to Home Depot. After stressfully putting it together, my sister and I got to paint it. Although it was hot when we were painting, we were surprised at how fast we got it done since we did it together. It was nice to chat and relax!
For the pictures, we used this beautiful fabric bunting from Twenty Eight 12, an adorable Etsy shop! They actually sent the bunting to us when Addie was in the hospital. It hung on her hospital door, on the lemonade stand, and now it hangs in her nursery. It’s beautiful. We have Christmas stockings from them as well. It’s just a beautiful shop.
The cake smash pictures were my favorite. It was SO fun to put Addie’s hands in the cake and in her mouth. You can tell she really enjoyed it! I think she was so confused what was going on, but once she had a little lick of frosting, she was REALLY excited!
The lemonade themed 1st birthday photo shoot was a complete success and we finished pretty late in the evening. I am SO grateful to Rhonda and Tim Williams of Legacy Imaging for capturing this fun set of pictures for us. They are so very special to our family and they will be forever treasured. If you are looking for a photographer in Waco, Texas, please check them out. They do everything from senior portraits, to weddings, to family portraits. They are wonderful!
