Last year, Addie was in the hospital for Halloween, but just because she was in the hospital didn’t mean that we would skip holidays. I wanted our lives to stay as normal as possible and Halloween was no exception. After trying to figure out what we were doing, we decided it would be fun to have Mathew dress as a hunter and Addie and I would dress as deer! Our hunter and deer halloween costumes were a HUGE hit in the NICU, and I had a blast showing off Addie’s sweet costume and my fun makeup that my friend Allison did for me.
I wanted us to be more of a runway-inspired version of deer, so for Addie’s deer Halloween costume I dyed a Carter’s white onesie brown with Rit dye. I just followed the instructions on the bottle and did it in my sink. I also bought some fun fur fabric next to the felt section at Hobby Lobby and cut it out into an oval. I just hot glued the fabric to her onesie by making a big circle of glue along the outer edge of the fur. I also bought some 3/4 inch flat elastic and brown tulle rolls and created a tutu for her. To finish off her look, I made a floral crown with little fawn ears made out of brown and tan felt.
I made a floral crown for myself as well, but I added gold glitter “branches” that were in the floral section of Hobby Lobby. They looked like sea plants at first and then I broke them into antler shapes. I also wore a Michael Kors dress I’d had for a while, but also added a patch of white fur on my stomach. I even cut out a little triangle of the white fur and safety pinned it to my butt for a tail! Ha! I finished my look with a fun, painted face, courtesy of my blog friend, Allison.
For my makeup, Allison and I used MAC fluidline for the nose, Naked palette eyeshadow for the eyes, Naked foundation, MAC eyelashes (on lash line and below lash line), Anastasia Brow Wiz for the brows, and a white foundation for the nose, forehead, and cheek dots. I may have looked a little funny walking into the hospital with my whole get up, but I didn’t care. I had so much fun and there were tons of people that thought my makeup was so awesome!
Of course, Halloween wouldn’t have been complete without our sweet friend Kelsie joining us for a picture. Isn’t she cute as Minnie Mouse? Anyway, it made me really happy that everyone was so excited for us to dress up at the hospital that day. The NICU can be a sad and scary place, but we had a good time making everyone smile. I’m so grateful to have been able to celebrate Addie’s first holiday even though we were in the hospital. It was very special to us!
