Y’all know I’ve talked several times about being on a tight budget. Being on one income this summer has proven to be a challenge, but one that we’re trying to overcome with creativity. Whether it’s been eating at home more, skipping out on all those awesome summer blockbusters, or not taking all those road trips that we love- we’re making changes.
I worked at Dino Camp for our church last week (now I’m helping out with Space Camp) and my awesome co-worker, Michelle, had a tent up in our room for the kids to play in next to our “excavation site” pool with sand. I thought it was such a fun idea to put a tent inside so I told Mathew about the fun idea.
What happened that night?
WE HAD A CAMPING DATE NIGHT… AT HOME!
Before we camped, we decided to go to BJ’s for some dinner (because although we eat out less, we still love their pizza and pizookies) which is why you see the picture on the left with Mathew. He loves pizookies and was trying to steal the whole thing. Anyway, once we got home we moved our coffee table into the guest bedroom and moved our couch and got ready to pitch our tent!
So what exactly do you need for a camping date night at home? Easy peasy!
-Tent
-Mattress and blankets (we took the mattress off the guest bed but feel free to use a blow up or even just sleeping bags if your floor isn’t hard!)
-Your favorite white, fluffy pooch (optional)
-Awesome snacks like s’mores
-Your favorite movie (or you can have a weekend Harry Potter marathon like we did)
Our camping date night at home was SO much fun. We avoided bugs and the nasty Texas heat, and had a GREAT weekend. It was fun, spontaneous, and just completely different than anything else we’d ever done. We definitely will have to do it again!
What’s been one creative date you’ve done? What do you think of our camping date night at home? Sound off in the comments!

So cute! Unfortunately my furniture is so heavy and no place to move it to have space for a tent. Have you seen the cute idea on pinterest where you take a blowup mini swimming pool and throw blankets and pillows in it?
