Elf on the Shelf is becoming all the rage more and more every Christmas. Although Mathew and I don’t have any children yet, I have to admit that I absolutely love putting Timmy the Elf in all different kinds of positions throughout the apartment just because it freaks him out. The only problem was, that when we got Timmy, he was kind of hard to put in all the fun positions. That is…until I thought it’d be a smart idea to make him bendable! Making Timmy the Elf was not only incredibly easy for this “non-sewer” but it only took me a few minutes. Want to know how to make your Elf on the Shelf bendable? Well..here goes!

You really only need a few supplies that you most likely already have at home. The only thing I ended up buying was the floral wire, which you can find at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, or any craft and floral store.

Supplies:
Seam ripper
12-14 gauge floral wire
Pliers with a wire cutter
Sewing needle
Red and white thread

Step 1: Using your seam ripper, rip the seams on your Elf on the Shelf’s hands and feet. You’ll only need to rip 2 or 3 little stitches, not the entire thing, just so your wire can slip through.

Step 2: Using the length of your Elf on the Shelf’s arm (it’s best when he or she is laying down), measure the length of wire that you need. Make sure you keep a little extra length at the end and make a small loop with your pliers. This will ensure that your wire doesn’t end up poking through the end of his arms and legs over the years. You’ll want to do both wires for the arms at the same time to make sure they’re the same length, as well as the legs. You don’t want your elf to be uneven!

Step 3: Feed the wire into each arm and leg and sew it up with your thread and VOILA- you’re done!

You may also choose an additional step if you have Velcro pads at home. I’m thinking about adding Velcro to Timmy’s hands to be able to let him grasp things easier. I’ve seen it done on other Elf on the Shelf pictures on Pinterest, and it’s as easy as peel and stick!

So there you have it, making your Elf on the Shelf bendable! What do you think about this DIY project?
