If you didn’t know already from Twitter or Instagram, I’m sick right now.It started on Christmas Eve with my throat feeling as though I’d been eating broken glass anytime I swallowed or tried to eat any kind of food (soft or not). I had a terrible sore throat for 3 days and Mathew convinced me to go to the doctor. I’m stubborn about doctors because mine always says, “You have an A-typical bug” which makes me want to smack him and tell him that he needs to give whatever I have a name. In any case, I went to the doctor only for him to tell me I was about to get a cold and there were no meds that he could give me. GREEEEAT. It’d been several days since then, but on the 30th it hit me all of a sudden.

I have a cold.

Not a little cold, but constant sneezing and grossly enough- tons of mucus. EW. I already had New Years Eve plans to meet with Neely (and A) and Becka, so I wasn’t going to let my girlies down despite my feeling sick. Mathew and I had lunch with Neely on NYE day and then I had a great time with Becka and her friends at night.

But New Years Day?

SICKER THAN EVER. So I decided to compile a list of things for a happier and healthier New Year when you’re sick- because apparently TONS of people are sick right now too.

1. Lay on the couch to rid of the feeling of death.
Yep you heard me. This is Dr. Stephanie’s orders. Just lay on the couch and make sure to put a bottle of water/Sprite or a cup of hot tea next to you. Oh- and crackers. Crackers are a must.

2. Rent a funny movie (or in my case send out a desperate tweet for someone to pick up a movie for you in hopes that someone will answer it)

I luckily have a wonderful friend in Austin. She saw my desperate plea to have someone buy Pitch Perfect for me (since it’s not out at Redbox yet) and she went in her jammies to Wal-Mart to buy it for me. Not gonna lie- this movie is freaking hilarious because of Fat Amy and the fish lips Asian girl. It had me laughing so hard that I almost forgot I was on the verge of death. Usually my “feel good” movie is “You’ve Got Mail” but I really wanted to watch this one, and I’m glad I did!

3. Keep your phone charger nearby so you can constantly tweet and check Instagram.

I made this mistake and ended up having to charge my phone 3 times while laying on the couch because my phone wasn’t fully charged. Being sick gets boring when you can’t get off the couch. Remedy this by making sure your phone is fully charged or keep your charger next to you. You will thank me for this.
4. Soup. Lots of Soup.
They say there are healing powers in chicken noodle soup. Unfortunately, my mother in law didn’t get me chicken noodle, but she did get me this yummy soup instead. It’s so delicious and I definitely felt better once I ate it. It’s creamy and chunky and not bad on calories (if you’re watching that stuff like I am). Put a couple of those aforementioned crackers and you’re good to go! (Oh and take a shot of Tylenol Cold. That stuff works good but tastes like crud so you’ll want lots of soup to wash it down with!)

5. Do the no makeup thing and wear your comfyest jammies.
Sure, you’ll look like death (probably), but what better way to try to feel better than just going au natural with your cozy jammies? Getting cozy is the best way to feel better. Plus, if you’ve got an adorable hubby like I do, maybe he’ll snuggle up with you and put a cold rag on your forehead. Now that’s love!

So there ya have it. My cure to ridding the sickies so you can be happy and healthy again during this New Year. I’m sitting here sick, but I’m hoping my plan works for me too 🙂
